2011 IAWA Annual Meeting

Tuesday night we will meet on the outdoor patio of the hotel (weather permitting) for a Welcoming Reception.   Our Annual Golf Outing will be held on Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m. at the Aldeen Golf Club.

Aldeen was ranked the best municipal course in Illinois by Golf Digest in 2009 and rated 4-1/2 stars by 2008 Golf Digest Magazine's Places to Play guidebook. GOLF Magazine calls it one of the Thrifty Fifty.  Aldeen is ranked #23. The Aldeen Golf Club has set a new standard for upscale public golf in northern Illinois. 

If you are not a golfer, you can enjoy a tour of the Historic Auto Attractions… where history meets entertainment.  Historic Auto Attractions is not only home to famous cars, but also a wide array of movie memorabilia. Some of those pieces include Marilyn Monroe’s nightgown, a sweater worn by Hollywood legend James Dean, and an outfit worn by Elvis Presley. In addition, a large section of the museum is dedicated to John F. Kennedy, along with the “Day in Dallas” display.  Historic Auto Attractions is truly one man’s passion for automobiles and history that is a must see for everyone! We guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

 Wednesday afternoon we will be conducting our Executive Committee Meeting as well as our Business/Technical Committee Meeting.  Wednesday night we will take a bus to the beautiful Coronado Performing Arts Center.  The Center opened on October 9, 1927 as an atmospheric style theatre and movie palace - complete with Spanish castles, Italian villas, oriental dragons, starlit skies and a Grande Barton Pipe Organ. Countless show business legends, including the Marx Brothers, Tommy Dorsey, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, George Gershwin, Bob Hope, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Gypsy Rose Lee have performed on the Coronado stage.  While there, we will relax and enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before dinner and then take a tour (haunted or traditional tour) of the facility.    

  The Program & Site Committee has put together a very interesting group of speakers with topics on Thursday to include; “Nutrients”, “Green Infrastructure Performance”, Panel discussion on “Roles and Responsibilities of Trustees “, “Labor Relations Update” from Jim Baird, Congressman Bobby Schilling will be our last speaker to discuss USEPA regulations among other issues affecting the industry, as well as our annual updates from Marcia Willhite and Kip Kolkmeier. 

Spouses will enjoy a morning at the Anderson Japanese Gardens, an authentic Japanese Garden maintained by the highest of standards that touches the soul of its guests. Lunch will be served on the outdoor patio (weather permitting) overlooking the beautiful landscape.  We have also planned a shopping experience like no other at Crimson Ridge.  Crimson Ridge has a huge selection of unique gifts.

Traditionally, Thursday evening is reserved for our Annual Awards Banquet and induction of our newly elected Executive Committee.  This event will be held in the Resort and our theme will be a “Caribbean Evening”, complete with music from the Od TaPO Imi Steel Drum Band representing the best musicians in Chicago specializing in the Caribbean genre of entertainment, that sets the mood, tropical drunks and a Caribbean style meal….. and, of course, fun and games!                 

 The Annual Meeting will be adjourned after Friday’s breakfast buffet.  We recommend casual dress for all the activities.

 We have a block of rooms reserved at a group rate of $104 + tax per night that includes a full, hot breakfast buffet.  Room cut-off date for current rate is September 1^st, so please be sure to make your reservations soon.
